We are looking for a part-time ADult instructor and climbing wall attendant:

Position: Adult Instruction & Climbing Wall Attendant

Hours: 10-15 hours
SUMMARY - GRIP BOULDERING Job Description:

Climbing Wall Attendants at Grip Bouldering is the cornerstone of our community, from being the first person many people meet when they walk into the gym to cultivating a safe space for members to feel welcome in. The position focuses on community growth and safety. You will act as a point of contact to all who enter the facility, to help guide their experience.

Adult instructors at Grip Bouldering form a cornerstone of our program offerings. These positions primarily support new and intermediate climbers in learning the technical skills required for rock climbing, able to run climbing-focused fitness classes, and transitional classes to learn the skills required to climb outdoors. This position supports various programs from introductory bouldering classes to advanced movement and technique.

Adult instructors deliver instruction based on curriculum and planning in conjunction with the program director and may also work with our youth programs to align instruction.
Adult instructors are an integral part of the Grip Bouldering team, helping us to create an environment where climbing is enjoyable and clients learn and improve.

Responsibilities:

  •  Manage risk during programming

  •  Understand and execute the program curriculum and all instructions from the program

  • director.

  • Coach beginner and intermediate climbing technique classes.

  •  Help develop and run climbing-focused fitness classes (GripFit).

  •  Contribute to the design and delivery of risk-managed climbing programs that meet the

  • goals of the climbers and business.

  •  Support identification and recruiting of potential adult class clients.

  •  Impart to the athletes the maximum, appropriate level of knowledge and skills.

  • Communicate and coordinate with other departments in fulfillment of duties and responsibilities as directed.

  • Maintain all appropriate CPR, first aid, and training certifications.

  • Support facility team and department daily and monthly sales and member experience

    goals.

  • Be an ambassador for Grip and the sport in all interactions with clients or the public.

  • Maintain a basic understanding of sales and member experience functions, including

  • facility orientations and basic sales conversations.

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of every event, access items, membership, and retail offering, including the process of selling in GymMaster.

  • Responsible for all duties required to maintain the cleanliness and presentation of the facility, manage retail, support events/programming, distribute gear, and other operational duties.

  • Provide safety and basic orientation for members.

  • Qualifications

  • 2+ years of climbing experience in relevant facets of rock climbing, specifically, indoor, outdoor, bouldering, and sport

  • 1+ years experience coaching & instructing climbing with youth and adults preferred

  • CPR/First Aid certifications (WFR when relevant)

  • Ability to breakdown, teach, and critique climbing techniques to climbers of all abilities

  • Extensive experience in risk management for rock climbing

  • Strong communication skills: interpersonal, public relations, conflict resolution, motivational skills

  • Strong decision-making skills: critical thinking, adaptability

  • Willingness to work as part of a team

  • Ability to work weeknight evenings and weekends

  • Ability to coach private lessons

  • Solid working knowledge of rope systems: belays, knots, rappels, etc.

  • Skills in group leadership

  • Able to stand on feet for long periods

  • Must pass a background check

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • 5.12/ V5 Redpoint Level, 5.11/V3 Onsight Level

  • Route Setting experience

  • Experience climbing both indoors and outdoors

  • Ability to read and understand v8/5.13

Compensation

Pay: $15.00-$18/hr with opportunities for growth Hospitality Training
