Position: Youth Coach
Job Description: Coaches at Grip are educators and mentors who develop relationships with kids and their parents that can last a lifetime. This position supports a variety of programs from youth recreational teams to competitive youth teams.
Coaches deliver instruction based on curriculum and training plans developed by the Head coach, and work as a team to provide the best programs for all youth athletes interested in improving their climbing!
Responsibilities:
Manage risk during programming
Understand and execute the program curriculum and all instructions from the Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach
Coach camps, school programs, recreational and competitive teams and be available for competitions and team events throughout the year and specific school breaks or holidays
Contribute to the design and delivery of age-appropriate & risk-managed climbing programs that meet the goals of the climbers, teams and the business
Support identification and recruiting of potential team members
Impart to the athletes the maximum, appropriate level of knowledge and skills
Be an ambassador for Grip and for the sport in all interactions with clients or the public
Communicate and coordinate with other departments in fulfillment of duties and responsibilities as directed
Maintain all appropriate CPR, first aid, and training certifications
Qualifications
2+ years climbing experience (in relevant facets of rock climbing, specifically, indoor, outdoor, bouldering, and sport)
1+ years experience coaching & instructing climbing with youth and adults.
CPR/First Aid certifications (WFR when relevant)
Ability to breakdown, teach, and critique climbing technique to climbers of all abilities
Extensive experience in risk management for rock climbing
Strong communication skills: interpersonal, public relations, conflict resolution, motivational skills
Strong decision making skills: critical thinking, adaptability
Willingness to work as part of a team
Ability to work weeknight evenings and weekends
Solid working knowledge of rope systems: belays, knots, rappels, etc.
Skills in group leadership
Able to stand on feet for long periods of time
Must pass a background check
Compensation
Pay: $16.00/hr with opportunities for growth
